Drew
Weaver, a management executive with more than 14 years in the media and
Internet industries, builds online audiences through compelling
consumer products and content.
With
a seasoned ability to
assess the strengths and opportunities of an online business and
develop a relevant product strategy supported by innovative
experiences, Drew delivers value that both engages consumers and drives
business results.
As Vice President of Product Management at AOL, Drew is currently
responsible for
online safety products, including the company's flagship family
offering, AOL Parental
Controls. Guiding a team of 30
engineers,
product managers and designers, he built an audience of 15MM unique
users across six online products, including the industry's first free
security suite, which AOL used as the centerpiece of a nationwide, $40
million TV advertising campaign.
Previously, Drew led creative development of innovative AOL Instant
Messenger (AIM®)
features and ran the company's online
greetings business, AOL Greetings.
In these roles, he managed a $5MM
content budget and five-person creative team, developing animated and
live content for innovative features such as SuperBuddy
Icons™ and Video Expressions.
His products garnered among the highest user satisfaction scores on the
AOL
service. He has two
patents pending related to Instant Messaging.
Prior to joining AOL, Drew led local entertainment and news programming
operations at Digital
City Inc.
— then the country's
largest local
online content and advertising network — for its southwest
region,
including the leading markets of Los Angeles and Las Vegas. As online
editor, he produced user-generated-content hits such as "Best of
the
City," a content franchise that
was adopted network-wide and grew
to
become the company's top traffic generator. Drew was tapped by senior
management to lead creation of Digital City's
signature product, a 42-city "Local Entertainment Guide," successfully
guiding a nationwide team of engineers and city editors through a
high-pressure, five-month development timeline. He was presented with
the company's annual "Special Achievement Award" and the product later
co-won
Yahoo! Internet Life's "Best City Guide" Award for depth of content and
robust
user-generated content and community features.
Early in his career, Drew co-founded a web design firm focused on
developing web sites for small businesses in Washington, D.C. and
Baltimore, helping to establish the medium as a new marketing channel
for local companies. He started his career in newspapers, working as a
journalist at the Philadelphia Inquirer,
where his interest in the online medium led him
to become the de facto Internet
reporter for his bureau.
He holds an MBA degree from Georgetown
University and a BA in
Journalism from the University of Maryland.
